A Saturday update!
This week's update is a little weird, and partially undoes a lot of the changes to dash from previous versions. [D] is a slide that can be held to stay in a 'parrying' stance for up to 50 frames. The parry effect catches highs or lows as long as the player is holding the correct direction down or not. The parry effect also catches attacks from front and back. Once an attack is caught, Suu enters a stance that can catch an attack again as long as she holds the [D] input, and can extend for up to 90 frames. Immediately after parrying an attack with [D] there is a 12 frame animation lock where Suu can use specific follow up attacks with [L], [H], or [D]. [L] is a invuln on start up kick, [H] is a quick dash strike that can side switch on hit, and [D] is a dash that can be used in either direction and crosses through enemies.
Chip damage has been removed from Blocking (outside of weather effects), and parrying causes the defender to take 50% of the damage.
Air dash, which uses the [D] input, still has a brief window of deflect on it, though in the air the deflect doesn't have a stance associated with it, so the deflect has Suu pass through attacks with armor during the window. I'm evaluating if I want to pursue having air versions of the stance mechanic to parrying.
The goal of these changes was to allow the mechanic to invite more interesting gameplay situations, and also ease up on the timing requirement for grazing through attacks to get blade sight reads. The followups are strong and allow for powerful interrupts after a parry while reducing how powerful a dash-parry-closeheavy attack was as an answer to most situations. The extended coverage of parry will also hopefully allow parry to be of more use in group situations.
EDIT - i forgot to also include the following changes - landing lag has been removed from all of Suu's air normal attacks, and character jump resources have been changed to allow characters to have 1 double jump and 1 airdash in the air.
