it's been a bit since the last update.
so, to keep it focused on the changes, this week (month's) changes are a partial reversion of many of the recent changes, though with a focus on focusing the new mechanics. In testing and thinking through the changes, by far the best change for adding to the fluidity of interactions has been the soft targeting, so the current set of changes push towards leaning into how that mechanic opens up some control things.
1- Suu's run speed has been increased. Minimum Dash start time reduced. Total Dash hold time reduced.
2- The camera now pans in the direction the player is moving. The camera will also pan towards an enemy if the player is targeted from one side and soft targeting is active (or center on the player if targeted from both sides). The camera acts the same as before when hard targeted onto an enemy.
3- Camera zones have been mostly removed from their places in the environment and no longer act as invisible walls unless an "encounter" is active within.
4- pushback on attacks was raised globally a little (trying it out a little higher, i may revert this)
5- Suu's parry follow-up skills have been removed, and any attack can be used out of dash parry/graze. !Note that although this sounds like it works like it did previously, it currently does not skip hitstop from the attack and suffers pushback, which limits how consistent some actions like c.H and grab are after a dash-parry. It can still be held to continue parrying attacks for up to 2 seconds after a successful catch
6- Teru Teru Bozu has a new attack and is able to be asked out
7- Matsu is now able to be asked out (she is by the bonefire)
8- Enemy leashing has been adjusted, roaming enemies/enemies of the 'minion' category now stay partially bound to a spot on the map. It extends if they are engaged by the player. Enemies stay 'active' in aggression to the player, but maintain a zone. Some enemies have different rules (pig ninjas latch their zone onto the player and follow them after engagement)
9- New camera edge zones have been added to constrain the camera movement in some areas, usually to keep the camera from scrolling too far into 'dead ends'
10- the lake training room at the end of the outer zone mountain trail is currently disconnected and replaced by another room. you may need to use debug reset or room change functions if you last saved in that room.
11- Attacks that use a targeted enemy will now use the bookmarked target if no target is selected. (bookmarked targets are the quick-targetable enemies with a dark arrow over them. the arrow appears when untargeted and attacking or being attacked by an enemy)
